Roger Marran - Chairman (Eng '88)
Roger Marran is CEO of Energy Kinetics, Inc. (Lebanon, NJ), a leading manufacturer of high-efficiency integrated heat and hot water systems. He rowed 4 years including heavyweight varsity crews in ’86, ’87, and ’88 (Co-Captain). He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Rutgers University and an Executive M.S. in Technology Management from Stevens Institute of Technology.
Thomas McKay, III, Chairman Emeritus ('69)
Partner – Cozen O’Connor, a National Full Service Law Firm 1982-2020 (retired). Former Assistant U.S. Attorney – N.J. (1973-1981). Admitted to Practice in N.J. and N.Y. Rowed 4 years, Lightweight, Letter Winner.Rutgers College English Major. J.D. Temple University, 1972. Certified Civil Trial Attorney by N.J . Supreme Court. ( retired ). Member Board of Directors, Rutgers University Foundation 2012-2016.
Ahmed Bahgat - Secretary (SAS ’16, RLAW ‘19)
Ahmed rowed for four years at Rutgers. He graduated with dual degrees in Planning and Public Policy and History. Ahmed received his J.D. at Rutgers Law School in 2019. He is Counsel at Comcast, specializing in technology transactions. Ahmed is still rowing and competing for Vesper Boat Club in Philadelphia, PA.
Eric Nielsen (CAES '73)
Eric Nielsen holds a B.S. in Environmental Science. While at Rutgers, Eric rowed all four years, was a Letterwinner and as a member of the 1973 Varsity Eight was a recipient of the Rutgers Athletic Achievement Award. He was also a member of Lambda Chi Alpha and ROTC. Eric went on to serve in the US Army Special Forces, was a member of the United States Military Pentathlon Team, holds a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, had a long career in high-tech management in Silicon Valley and currently consults part time.
William Porter (Rutgers College '89)
Will Porter, head coach of Yale Women’s Rowing since 1999, is a two-time National Coach of the Year with six NCAA titles, 22 NCAA Championship appearances, with many athletes progressing to become Olympians and national team members. He won a silver medal in the 1991 Pan Am Games and a bronze medal in the 1993 World Championships. He started his coaching career at Rutgers after rowing heavyweight varsity in ’87, ’88, and ’89 as Captain.
Alfred P. Sattelberger (Rutgers College ’70)
Al Sattelberger is currently a member of the Chemistry Department, University of Central Florida. He rowed 4 years including lightweight varsity crews in ’68, ’69, and ’70 (Captain). He holds a B.A. in Chemistry from RU and a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Indiana University. He has taught inorganic chemistry at CWRU, U Michigan, UNLV, and U Chicago, and worked at both Los Alamos (Senior Lab Fellow) and Argonne (Chief Research Officer, Emeritus) National Labs.
Joe Schenkel (Rutgers College '63)
Along with his interest in sports psychology, Joe has had a long professional career as a clinical psychologist and teacher. While at Rutgers he was a member of Phi Epsilon Pi and participated in lightweight football, sailing, and ROTC. Joe earned his Ph.D. at the University of Utah.
Chuck Crawford ('73)
Chuck Crawford is the President and CEO of ACW Corporation, which owns and operates fifteen Arby's restaurants across Delaware. A former competitive rower who achieved national and international success in lightweight crews during the 1960s and 1970s, he has dedicated over four decades to coaching rowing at the high school, club, and collegiate levels. As the founder and longtime head coach of the University of Delaware Men's Crew program, Chuck has led teams to multiple national championships and was named USRowing's Collegiate Coach of the Year in 2015, mentoring countless athletes both on the water and in their professional lives.
Jeff Klepacki (Rutgers College '90)
Jeff Klepacki, a Rutgers University alumnus and Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, is one of the most accomplished rowers in U.S. history, representing the nation as a three-time Olympian and World Champion in the Heavyweight Eight. Beyond rowing, he has built a distinguished career in financial services, currently serving as Executive Vice President and National Sales Manager at Bluerock Capital Markets, with senior leadership roles at firms including Vontobel, Aberdeen Standard Investments, Capital Group, Allianz Global Investors, and Delaware Investments. Combining elite athletic achievement with executive-level leadership, Jeff remains deeply connected to Rutgers and the rowing community, bringing strategic vision, mentorship, and a lifelong commitment to the sport.
William Wilber ('73)
Bill Wilber served nearly 40 years (1978–2016) as a hydrologist and water-quality specialist with the U.S. Geological Survey, where he helped design and manage the National Water-Quality Assessment Program. He earned B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from Rutgers University. A lifelong rower, Bill competed at Washington-Lee High School, winning the 1969 Princess Elizabeth Cup at Henley, and rowed four years at Rutgers, placing second at the 1971 EARC Sprints. While in graduate school, he founded and coached the Rutgers Women’s Crew (1975–1978). After retiring from USGS, he coached women’s crew at James Madison High School in McLean, Virginia (2018–2020). He now resides in Castle Rock, Colorado.
Hugh Lavery (Rutgers College '86)
Hugh Lavery is Executive Vice President of Government & External Affairs at Jefferson, which comprises Jefferson Health, Jefferson Health Plans and Thomas Jefferson University, where he leads efforts in shaping policy discussions around healthcare delivery, coverage and higher education. A Rutgers College graduate (Class of 1986) and member of the Rutgers men's heavyweight rowing team, Mr. Lavery also earned his MHA from Duke University.
